Energy expenses top concern for small business owners, NFIB reports [ROI-NJ]


Small business owners across New Jersey are feeling the pressure of surging energy costs, according to new findings from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). The organization’s first Small Business Energy Survey highlights how rising utility bills are affecting business operations, hiring, and long-term growth decisions in the Garden State.

The report, based on responses from 775 small business owners, found that about 80% said energy costs significantly impact their business, with many forced to absorb increases through lower profits or higher prices for customers. Electricity was cited as the most common energy concern, followed by costs tied to heating, cooling, and equipment use.
