Who oversees New York’s infrastructure?

The agencies/authorities responsible for New York’s physical and digital infrastructure

New York’s trains, airports, roads, bridges, electrical grid, drinking and wastewater, and digital infrastructure is managed, protected, and administered by a host of state, regional and federal agencies and authorities.

Unlike a traditional state department, a public authority is generally created for a specific public purpose and governed by a board. New York relies heavily on these entities to operate toll roads, transit systems, bridges, power facilities and other major assets. The state’s Authorities Budget Office monitors their compliance with reporting, governance and transparency requirements.
