New Jersey is among a group of six states that have joined in a petition to the Environmental Protection Agency to add microplastics to the next Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule under the Safe Water Drinking Act. Under the Safe Water Drinking Act, the EPA must add a contaminant when seven governors petition the agency. Delaware recently joined New Jersey, Illinois, Maryland, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Connecticut in supporting the Petition. According to an article on CoastTV, Governor Murphy helped get support from the other governors.
