A Brief Timeline of Electricity Capacity Shortage Warnings from PJM

The “Energy Transition” Won’t Happen [City Journal]

"There’s a full-on race in the tech industry, and in tech-centric investment communities, to spend billions of dollars on new AI-infused infrastructures. The furious pace of expanding manufacturing to produce AI-capable silicon chips and simultaneously building massive, AI-infused datacenters is shattering the illusion that a digital economy enables a decoupling of economic growth from rising energy use."

2025 ASCE Infrastructure Report Card

The national grade for infrastructure improved from C- in 2021 to C in 2025. Nearly half of the assessed categories saw grade increases, with ports receiving the highest grade (B) and stormwater and transit rated lowest (D). For the first time since 1998, no category received a D- grade.

Who is PJM and what do they do? A primer.

Data centers, electric vehicles, and industrial electrification are driving projections of 4.5% annual load growth in PJM territory - a dramatic increase that will require new generation and transmission investments. This comes as the industry struggles with supply chain delays and workforce shortages.
